Minnesota DOR Issues Information on Situations Where Amended Income Tax Return Filing is Required

The Minnesota Department of Revenue April 28 issued information on filing amended individual income tax returns. Taxpayers must file an amended return if: 1) they discover an error in their return; 2) the Internal Revenue Service made changes to a taxpayer’s federal return; and 3) they have amended their federal return. Taxpayers can’t file the amended return electronically. Each tax year has its own amended tax return form. Taxpayers must file amended returns within 3.5 years of the original return’s due date. Taxpayers filing as married filing jointly can’t change their filing status to married filing separately after the return’s .
